Indulge Yourself with These Stress-Busting, Feel-Good Gifts

This week, we’re continuing to have some fun.

A little less data (but no less grounded in science!), a little more indulgence.… which hopefully, is just what the doctor ordered at this time of year.

If you’ve been taking care of everyone else this month (or if that non-scratch pan from Santa just wasn’t your dream gift), it’s time to find the perfect treat for YOU.

Read on for our favorite indulgences that will help you feel great, lower your stress levels, and are also (at least mostly) good for you.  (None of these are affiliate links, just personal faves.)

Treat Yourself

Exercise

Save: Up the challenge of your walk with a “Booty Band” (rec to me by my close friend David Kirsch, who also trains J-Lo, so…well…he knows how to workout one’s booty), and Bala Bangles wrist weights

Free: Join me on the Mom Hacks Spotify “Pump Up” playlist. (For a splurge, get a new pair of wireless headphones to enjoy it even more!)

Splurge: Want a virtual trainer? David Kirsch has a new 14-Days to Jump Start YOUR BEST YOU IN 2022! with nutrition and exercise guidance. If you only want exercise, consider Tracey Anderson’s monthly fitness program.

Nutrition

Save: Glass or stainless steel water bottles from Contigo, Lifefactory, or Owala (which we just bought and love).

Splurge: I love the Daily Harvest smoothies + veggie bowls, that make eating more produce MUCH easier (and delicious)

Beauty

Splurge: Yes, this is a total utter splurge, but the Dyson Airwrap Styler saved me when I had to switch from filming CNN segments in-studio (with hair and makeup artists), to doing it on my own (with the artists coaching me over FaceTime. It was NOT a pretty learning process). Also, read our Where do dermatologists splurge post for more ideas.

Stress

Save: meditation apps by Headspace or Oak (which I personally use for their unguided meditations)

Splurge: Ziva meditation’s 2-week program

Clothing

Save: Uplifting, ego-boosting Notes to Self Socks (I wear a pair where I can read “I’m a great mom” when I look at my feet)

Splurge: I’m currently loving my Lija gear – great for on or off the court

Sleep

Save: Blue-light blocking glasses from our favorite sleep expert, Dr. Michael Breus (watch our interview of him here)

Splurge: Do you roll into a single divot when you get into your mattress? May be time for an update! (we don’t have any specific brands here – we’re currently on the market ourselves – feel free to recommend!). But if you’re struggling to sleep, awake with pain, or feel too hot or cold, a mattress designed to your complaints can help.

Bonus

Magazine subscription: We love Smithsonian Magazine. It’s perfect for reading before bed, to relax you and transport you to other worlds.

New planner: I love @MichaelHyatt’s Full Focus Planner (TBH I don’t get around to doing the weekly or quarterly planning, but love the push to highlight my 3 most important tasks for the day).

Organization: I love these clear all-purpose bins from @TheContainerStore and @TheHomeEdit.

It really CAN feel good to take good care of yourself. What are YOUR favorite feel-good indulgences?

Here’s to you, beautiful.

Love,
